Oxfam holds poetry night, exhibition on crises in North-East

Abuja, Jan. 29, 2018 (NAN) Oxfam, a humanitarian and Development Organisation, on Monday said that it is organising a Poetry Night and Photo Exhibition to highlight the humanitarian issues in the North-East.

Mr Constant Tchona, the Acting Country Director of Oxfam Nigeria, in a statement said that the event has been scheduled for January 31 in Abuja.

Tchona, said that the exhibition is in collaboration with the British Council, with the objectives to raise and highlight key protection issues faced by civilians caught in conflict in the north-east of the country.

”Through this event, we hope to portray and shed light on the complex humanitarian and social situation the crises has brought.

”Oxfam is a humanitarian and Development organisation and has been responding to the crises in North-East Nigeria since 2014.

”We have reached over 450, 000 people as of 2017, through emergency food support, clean water and improved sanitation and finally protection programmes.

“In terms of advocacy, we are advocating for an efficient protection of civilians.

”Including displaced persons’ free and informed movements, to increase access to conflict-affected areas to better respond to the needs of the population,” he said. (NAN)
