Lagos, Jan. 29, 2018 (NAN) A Lagos Court on Monday rejected the plea of a husband seeking the dissolution of his 13-year-old marriage, instead reconciled the couple.

The troubled union between Mr Olamilekan Ola and his wife, Folashade, which was at the brink of collapse, was saved by the President of Igando Customary Court, Mr Akin Akinniyi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the  differences were successfully resolved after several adjournments and interventions.

Striking out the case, Akinniyi admonished the couple to maintain peace and to continue to live in love and harmony.

“Since the court was able to reconcile the couple through thorough counselling, I urged both of you to go home and live in peace and love and be law abiding,’’ Akinniyi said.

The 48-year-old businessman, Ola, had earlier told the court that his wife was too quarrelsome, temperamental and always fighting him.

“Our marriage from inception had been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels.

“My wife fights me on daily basis, she fights me whenever I instructed her to wash my clothes or cook for me.

“She fights me if I scold my children for doing any wrong, or when I want to make love to her.

“It was her behaviour that made me to marry a second wife and Folashade has not given peace of mind since I married her as she fights my new wife on daily basis,’’ he said.

In addition, the petitioner said that his wife also lacked respect for him.

“She does not respect me, she shouts, rains curses on me and insults me publicly thereby making me a laughing stock in the neighbourhood.

“Her attitude and her frequent fights with members of my family stopped them from coming to my house,” the hitherto estranged husband said, and urged the court to dissolve the union.

“I am tired and I don’t love her any longer. For how long will I continue to endure her behaviour? I have tolerated her enough and I can no longer bear it.

“I am always afraid to come home, please dissolve the marriage.”

Folashade, however, denied the allegations, fighting back tears.

“Please help me to beg my husband to drop the divorce,” pleaded the 40-year-old trader.

She added: “I am not a fighter but people always look for my trouble.

“Please court save my marriage. I am ready to make amends and correct my mistakes.

“I still love my husband and besides, my children are all girls, I do not want them to suffer this action because they are innocent, please.

“This is shameful seeing the home I successfully built for 13 years about to hit the rock.”

“Olamilekan forgive me and give me a second chance,” the mother of three begged her husband desperately. (NAN)
