Daura (Katsina States) Jan. 29, 2018 (NAN) The Katsina State Government said on Monday that it had spent N3.4billion on the construction, renovation and provision of teaching and learning facilities in all secondary schools in the state since 2015.
Dr Badamasi Chiranci, the Commissioner for education said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura.
Chiranci said that the amount was spent on the building of additional schools and classrooms including the renovation of dilapidated structures, and the provision of furniture and other relevant teaching and learning materials.
He said that in 2017, the government recruited 200 additional teachers.
“We were able to reconstruct and renovate 115 schools in 2017, to increase access to education.”
The commissioner said that the state government renovated Government Girls Secondary School Yamel in Dutsi Local Government Area at a cost of N32 million.
According to him, the renovation of the Government Secondary School Kai Kai, in Kusada Local Government Area cost N190 million.
Chiranci said that the renovation and provision of furniture and additional classrooms, offices and toilets at Government Girls Secondary Shargalle in Dutsi Local Government Area of the state gulped N78milllion.
“In fact, many schools were given facelift in the period under review, ” the commissioner said.
Charanci said that another N116 million was spent on the provision of additional facilities and construction of classrooms at the Family Support Secondary School in Daura.
He said that the state government would procure brand new vehicles for distribution to the zonal education offices with a view to strengthening the inspectorate and supervision department of the offices, as well as ensure quality assurance.
The commissioner said the government was committed to the transformation and the repositioning of education in the state.
