2 men docked for allegedly stealing, receiving phones worth N59,500

Lagos, Jan. 24, 2018 (NAN) Two men, who allegedly burgled a warehouse and stole phones and N59,500 cash, were on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants, 24-year-old Timothy Donatus, and 25-year-old Adamu Malfannami, are both resident at the Isheri area of Lagos.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, receiving stolen properties and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Unah Mike, told the court that the defendants and others still at large, committed the offence on Dec. 25, at No. 16, Daramola Str., Isheri, a Lagos suburb.

Mike said Donatus burgled the warehouse of the complainant, Abdulazeez Amani, and stole three phones valued at N44,500 and a cash sum of N15,000 all valued at N59,500.

He said that Malfannami, knowing fully well that the phones were stolen, received one out of the three phones.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant sighted Malfannami with the phone, because there was a particular mark on it, and when questioned, he said he bought it from Donatus.

He added that during police interrogation, Donatus confessed to have stolen the items.

The offence contravened Sections 287, 328, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, A.A Fashola, in his ruling, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Feb.7 for hearing. (NAN)
