Akwanga (Nasarawa State) Jan. 22, 2018 (NAN) Mr Samson Gamu-Yare, the Chun-Mada of Mada nation in Nasarawa State has urged politicians in the country to shun politics of bitterness and acrimony for a better Nigeria as 2019 general elections draw nearer.
Gamu Yare, made the call on Monday during a public lecture titled Myself, My people and My land organised by the Unity Forum of Ethnic Nationalities of Nasarawa State (UFENS) in Akwanga Local Government Area.
He urged politicians and other ethnic groups to unite and play the politics according to its rules in the interest of peace and national development.
According to him, politics devoid of bitterness and rancour will go a long way toward promoting peace ahead of the 2019 general election.
The first class monarch commended the organiser of the event, saying that it would go a long way in promoting unity and peace among ethnic nationalities across the state.
“I want to use this medium to urge you and other politicians to always avoid politics of bitterness and you must play the game by its rules in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the state and Nigeria at large.
“Peace is priceless, non-negotiable and is the necessary requirement for the development of any country, hence the need for various ethnic groups in the state and other Nigerians to embrace peace,” he said.
He advised Nigerians to live in peace with one another irrespective of their ethnic, religion and political differences for the overall development of the country.
Another traditional ruler in the state, Mr Joel Aninge, the Odyong Nyankpa of Panda area of the state also called on politicians to engage in peace and issue-based campaign for national development.
“I urge you and other politicians to always engage in politics of issues based campaign in order to promote peace and development in the country,” he said.
The monarch also advised youths and other Nigerians not to allow any politician to use them in fomenting trouble in the society.
He urged youths and Nigerians to always engage in useful ventures in order to become self-reliant and contribute their quota toward the development of the society.
Earlier, Mr Mathew Akwe, the chairman of the forum said that the forum was formed in order to promote unity and peace among the various ethnic groups in the state.
According to Akwe, peace is the bedrock of any meaningful development in the any society.
He said there was need for the ethnic groups in the state and Nigerians to embrace peace irrespective of their religious and political affiliation.
He restated the commitment of the forum to continue to organize workshops and public lectures on the need for the ethnic groups to embrace peace and tolerance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prominent personalities and traditional rulers including Sen. Solomon Ewuga, Sen. Philip Aruwa Gyunka and Mr Mike Abdullahi attended the lecture.
Others were Mr Demeshi Luka, the state deputy governor, Samson Yake and the Chun Mada of Mada nation, among others.
NAN reports that the representatives of Eggon,Mada,Rindre,Gbagi,Afo,Ibira,Igede,Gwandara,Tiv,Alago and Migili also attended the public lecture. (NAN)
