Lafia, Jan.18, 2018 (NAN) The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced free training of two thousand unemployed youths in skills acquisition under its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS) in Nasarawa State.

The state Coordinator of NDE, Alhaji Dauda Idris-wase, made this known on Thursday while addressing participants of the scheme in Lafia.

Idris-wase said that the initiative was to enable participants to become self reliant and to contribute their quotas to national development rather than depending on white collar jobs.

He said that the training was to equip the unemployed youths with relevant skills and make them employers of labour.

Idris-wase said that the training, which was in two categories, had 1,400 participants for cosmetology skill acquisition and 600 trainees for technical skills in GSM phone repairs, hairdressing and computer operations.

“The training is being conducted in all the 13 local government areas of the state with 70 trainers/instructors,“ he said.

Idris-wase called on participants across the state to take the training seriously to justify the government’s investment in the scheme.

According to him, government`s investment on the scheme can only be justified if participants can give their full attention during the training sessions.

He urged unemployed youths not to depend on white collar jobs, but to take advantage of Federal Government different skills acquisition to be self reliant.

Idris-wase restated the agency`s commitment to continue to embark on good policies and programmes that would address unemployment, poverty, youth restiveness and other negative vices in the society.

Also, Hajia Amina Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of other participants, lauded NDE for the gesture and promised to be of good conduct throughout the training period. (NAN)
