Lagos, Jan. 17, 2018 (NAN) A 34-year-old manager, Abiodun Adebowale, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly absconding with his employer’s N1.5 million.
Adebowale, a resident of Idimu area of Lagos, is being tried for stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, said that the accused committed the offence on Nov.18 at Oko-Oba in Agege area of Lagos.
Ayorinde said that the money belonged to Felyn LA Royal Event Centre, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused collected money from various people who wanted to use the centre for occasions, but allegedly failed to remit the money into the company’s coffers.
“The accused, who was the event centre manager, collected money from people for usage of the hotel and hall, but converted it to his own.
“The accused absconded with the money to an unknown destination until he was arrested and handed over to the police,” he said.
Ayorinde said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.J Awope, said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidences of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 26 for mention. (NAN)
