Abuja, Jan. 16, 2018 (NAN) The police on Tuesday arraigned a 50-year-old businesswoman, Rose Nwakwo in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with pouring hot oil on two of her neighbours.
The defendant, who has her place of business at Kado village, Abuja, is standing trial on one-count charge of causing grievous hurt.
The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that Timothy Nwakpa and Isaac David, whose shops were at the same address as the defendant, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 9.
Dalhatu said the complainants alleged that while they were sitting beside their shop in the market at Kado village, the defendant suddenly poured hot oil on them, inflicting injuries on their bodies.
The prosecutor said that the complainants were immediately rushed to Gwarimpa General hospital, Abuja, where they received treatment.
He said that the cost of the medical treatment was yet to be ascertained.
Dalhatu added that the offence contravened Section 245 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against her and the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, referred the defendant to the police for further investigation and adjourned the case till Jan. 25, for hearing. (NAN)
