Police arraign motorcyclist for allegedly assaulting traffic warden

Ile-Ife (Osun), Jan 16, 2018 (NAN) A commercial motorcyclist, Samson Ogundipe, was on Tuesday docked in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, over an alleged assault on a traffic warden, Ezekiel Segun.

Ogundipe, 50, is facing one-count charge of assault to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt Sunday Osanyintuyi, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan 14, 2018 around 3:10 p.m. at Lagere Area of Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused seriously assaulted the traffic warden with Force No: 8082 attached to ‘A’ Division Police Station More, Ile-Ife.

He added that the accused assaulted the traffic warden with a fist blow on his face while performing his official duty.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 356 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The Defence counsel, Mr Adewale Badmus, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal term and pledged that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Muhibah Olatunji, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Olatunji said that the surety must swear to affidavit of means and must be a blood relation of the accused.

She added that the surety must produce two recent passport photographs as well as three years tax clearance certificate.

The case was adjourned until Feb 2, for hearing. (NAN)
