Mararaba (Nasarawa State), Jan. 12, 2018 (NAN) Justice Ibrahim Shekarau of Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Friday, granted N50,000 bail to Lawali Mohammed, a labourer, over alleged N16,000 fraud.
Shekarau also ordered that Mohammed should present two sureties in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned hearing in the matter until Jan. 29.
Mohammed, who resides at Aliyu Plaza, Mararaba , Nasarawa State, is facing two-count charge of breach of trust and cheating.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that Mohammed’s neighbour, Mrs Hawau Yusuf, reported the matter at A Police Division, Mararaba, on Jan. 8.
Donald said that the defendant defrauded the complainant of N16,000, contrary to agreement the duo entered.
He added that Yusuf entrusted N24,600 with the defendant for safe keep, with the hope of collecting same whenever she needed it.
He noted that the defendant, however, diverted N16,000 out of the sum to his personal use
and all efforts by the complainant to recover her money proved abortive.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant had denied the allegation. (NAN)
