2 men in court over alleged membership of   gang of thieves

Mararaba (Nasarawa State), Jan. 12, 2018 (NAN) Two men- Chidiebere Christian, 20, and Isreal Elisha, 21, were on Friday arraigned in a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, for allegedly belonging to a gang of thieves.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, told the court that the defendants committed the crime on Jan. 8, around 11.45p.m. at Mararaba.

He said that the defendants, suspected to belong to a gang of thieves, were arrested by a police patrol team, led by Asp Hamen Gabriel.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants, had no means of livelihood, no place of abode and could not give satisfactory account of themselves.

According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 306 and 406 of the Penal Code Law.

The two defendants denied committing the offences.

The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

 

The case was adjourned until Jan. 31, for hearing.(NAN)
