Ikorodu, (Lagos State) Jan. 12, 2018 (NAN) An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Friday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Nurudeen Adeleke, to three months imprisonment for stealing a wallet.
The convict, a resident of Igbolomu community in Ikorodu, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy, but begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, however, gave the convict N20,000 option of fine.
He advised the convict to desist from committing such crime, adding that his sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Earlier the prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, told the court that the convict and others still at large, robbed one Mr Ejima Peters on Dec. 31, 2017 at 7.00 p.m.
“The convict pretended to be the complainant’s friend by introducing himself as his old classmate in school.
“While doing that, two other men came and robbed him of his wallet which contained ATM cards, driving licence, identity card and N11,000 cash.
“The convict and others ran away immediately the complainant shouted for help, but the police arrested him, while others fled,” she said.
Adegeshin said the offences contravened Sections 412 and 287 of Lagos State Criminal Code Law, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sections stipulate two and three years imprisonment respectively for offenders. (NAN)
