Lagos, Jan.11, 2018 (NAN) Maria Vincent, a housekeeper’s sister, was on Thursday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conspiring with her sibling to steal jewellery valued at N3 million and other valuables.
The 27-year-old trader, Vincent, a resident of Oke-Okuta, Ilaro, Ogun, is standing trial for conspiracy and stealing.
Police Prosecutor Ezekiel Ayorinde alleged that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 9, 2017 at Ilupeju, Lagos.
He said Vincent and her sister, Opeyemi Vincent (the housekeeper) still at large, conspired and stole jewellery valued at N3 million and other valuables belonging to her employer, Mrs Joke Atunramu.
Ayorinde told the court that the accused also stole bundles of lace and Ankara fabrics, shirts and blouses, childrens wears, shoes, handbags, wristwatches, perfumes and three phones.
In addition, the accused stole four laptops.
“The incident occurred when the complainant was away in London; she returned after a week to discover that the various items were missing.
“My Lord,the complainant had told the police that she had returned from her trip to discover that her 20-year-old housekeeper, Opeyemi Vincent and the accused had carted away her property,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.J. Awope, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment.
The case has been adjourned until Jan. 29 for mention. (NAN)
