Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Jan. 10, 2018 (NAN) Tarayya Ekklesiyoyin Kristti in Nigeria, a fellowship of Christians Church in Nigeria (FCCN), has strongly condemned the killings in Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kaduna and other states of the federation by suspected gunmen.
The TEKAN President, Rev. Caleb Ahima, condemned the mayhem on Wednesday during a five-day 63rd TEKAN General Assembly Conference, themed “The Church in Times Like This”, at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC), Alushi, in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
However, the fellowship commended the Federal Government fight against corruption, kidnapping and other security challenges, urging the government to do more in that direction in the interest of peace.
“TEKAN is a body of believers from 15 different churches coming together as fellowship, and for the execution of our lord’s command as the fellowship was founded for unity and evangelism for peace and development of our country.
“We are aware of the hard times the country is witnessing .Yet I urge us and other Nigerians to continue to trust God of this fellowship to bring us times of refreshing and the means to develop further in all sectors of our endeavours.
“TEKAN appreciates the Federal Government for all she is doing in respect of such threatening development in the country as in the areas of security, corruption, Nigerians sold as slaves in Libya, kidnapping and human trafficking.
“Even as we appreciate government over her efforts enumerated above, we will be wrong to stop at the accolades. Challenged by the reckless abandon with so-called on the challenges of herdsmen have been traumatised innocent and defenceless Nigerians,” he said.
According to him, government must be reminded of her constitutional responsibility of protecting all lives and properties, and this without any regard to creed or ethnicity.
“The law enforcement agencies and the judiciary must fulfil their constitutional roles so as to keep Nigerians and Nigeria protected,’’ he said.
Ahimba charged Christians and other Nigerians to shun corruption, other negative acts to show love and extend hands of friendship to the needy in order to inherit the kingdom of God and in the interest of peace and national development.
Also speaking, Prof. Joseph Otubu, Rev. Musa Asake, the National President and Secretary General of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), respectively, also condemned the killing of innocent Nigerians by suspected herdsmen and unknown gunmen in some parts of the country.
They called on Nigerians to pray fervently for God’s intervention in order to end the carnage in the interest of peace and development.
Earlier, Rev. Jerry Madibo, the ERCC President, said that the theme of the conference is timely considering the prevailing situation among the churches and brethren as the church universality is being confronted by a myriad of challenges.
The ERCC president also urged Christians and other Nigerians to live an exemplary life by shunning evil acts at all times so as to inherit the kingdom of God and in the interest of peace and national development.
