Lagos, Jan. 8, 2018 (NAN) The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) is to train members of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) on aircraft accident/incident report writing

The Commissioner for AIB, Mr Akin Olateru, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos on Monday, listed members of the BAGAIA group to include Nigeria, Cape-Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Olateru said the training, holding this month, is aimed at building capacity in the aviation industry.

“Capacity building is so vital to the AIB’s functions.

“This guarantees that all reports and safety recommendations issued out by the AIB are hoisted on the certainty that they do not miss any vital subject matter in their investigations that impact safety.

“Capacity development, infrastructural improvement, system and process re-engineering, remain our focus in making sure that AIB contributes meaningfully to aviation safety for the good of all.

“We are very pleased to be hosting the BAGAIA training as accident and incident report writing is a very important aspect to investigation,” he said.

According to him, the training will cover fire investigation, managing large-scale accident and incident investigation, emergency response and record investigation, among others.

He said that 20 of AIB’s safety investigators would  participate in the training while invitation has also been extended to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Presidential Air Fleet, the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Air Force. (NAN)
