By Awayi Kuje
Akun (Nasarawa State), Jan.3, 2018 (NAN) A former Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, on Wednesday advised Nigerians to always engage in activities that promote peace in the overall interest of national development.
Maku, a governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa in 2015, gave the advice in Wakama, Akun Development Area of the state.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that peace was the only positive instrument for the development of any society.
Maku appealed to people of the state and Nigerians in general, to unite against violence in order to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
According to him, peace is priceless, non-negotiable, and is the necessary requirement for the development of any nation.
He enjoined Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of ethnic, religion and political affiliation.
“What people of Nasarawa State need most now is prayers for God’s intervention for peace, unity, justice, harmony and togetherness.
“We are all aware that the economy of the state needs God’s intervention, because people are suffering; many people have died due to frustration.
“Let something be done for the workers; let something be done for the retirees.
“I am appealing to the state government to change positively.
“Let them have human and workers’ sympathy at heart through the payment of full salaries in the interest of peace and development.
“Despite hardship in the state, I want to call on communities to remain peaceful and always engage in activities that will promote peace, unity, togetherness for the overall development of the state,” he said.
Maku also urged Nigerians not to use religion to criminalise or create problems for others, adding that no religion preaches violence, confusion, division, but preaches peace, unity and togetherness.
He urged Nigerians, especially youths to shun violence, remain peaceful, law abiding, respect constituted authorities and be hard working for greater Nigeria. (NAN)
