Sokoto Dec. 29, 2017 (NAN) A 19 day free medical outreach programme sponsored by Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC- Sokoto), which targets no fewer than 3,150 persons suffering from various eye ailments has kicked off.
This is contained in a statement signed by Sen. Wamakko’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Mani and issued to newsmen in Sokoto on Friday.
Mani said the exercise would cover 19 local government areas across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
He said the free medical outreach would be conducted by Dr Ubani Chinemeze and Dr Paul Chukwudi, Optometrists working for Dr ( Mrs) Awawu Obasi Eye Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission ( CAC).
He said the areas of treatment include refractive errors, conjunctivitis and other eye infections.
The special assistant, however, said that the exercise would be officially flagged off on Thursday, Jan 4, 2018, at the Palace of Sarkin Gobir of Sabon Birni, headquarters of Sabon Birni Local Government of the state.
He said Wamakko initiated the free medical outreach as part of his unrelenting efforts to further alleviate the sufferings of the people of the state.
” Health is wealth and a healthy society, is a wealthy society, blessed with productive people,” he said.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the first phase of the programme, conducted in eight local governments under the Sokoto North Senatorial District between July and Aug. 2017, covered over 3,000 eye patients. (NAN)
