Ningi craft centre produces N1.8m worth of wood products monthly

Ningi(Bauchi) Dec. 25, 2017 (NAN) Mr Abdullahi Musa, the Chairman of Wood Craft Association in Ningi Local Government area, says the centre produces N1.8 million worth of wood items monthly.

Must told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Bauchi that youths from the age of 30 years down to school age were engaged in various stages in the production.

Musa said that the centre produced mortars, kitchen seats and utensils, among others.

“In this centre, we are more than 30 workers from 30 years of age and below and we produce various products.

“Some of us inherited the trade from our parents, while some came into the business because of their interest and they are well trained now.

“Each of us makes about N2,000 daily; we are putting in more effort to do more work,”he said.

Musa called on government at all levels to support those into the trade, adding that their products could be exported to various parts of the world.

“We need support for our products because what we produce can go beyond this country as they are of international standard,” he said.

Musa said that their products were being purchased by customers from Borno,Adamawa,Kaduna,Kano and Jigawa states.

Mrs Jummai Hamisu, the leader of women wing of the association, said that “as housewives, we complete the product by polishing, dying and painting them inside our compounds after they are crafted by the men out side.

“I have been in this trade for the past 25 years and have trained more than 50 women in this area.

“Myself and children are into it; the school age children assist me after their school time; we work together as such they have also learnt various designs and processes of the trade,” she said.
