Omu-Aran (Kwara), Dec. 24, 2017 (NAN) A cleric, Christopher Owolabi, has enjoined Christians to reflect on the significance of the yuletide season and intensify prayers for national unity.
Owolabi, who is the General Overseer of the Christ Apostolic Church, Ori-Oke Irapada, Omu-Aran, made the call during the church’s special prayer service at Omu-Aran on Sunday.
He stressed the need for discipline, trust, integrity and fear of God among the leaders and the led, for the country to move forward.
Owolabi maintained that the successes recorded by the present administration’s anti- corruption fight had lifted the nation toward the path of greatness and economic recovery.
He, however, observed that the anti-corruption crusade was now in dire need of the support of Nigerians, to enable it to achieve the desired results.
The man of God also expressed the need for politicians and those at the helm of the nation’s affairs to close ranks and put the national interest above their personal egos, so that the desired national transformation can be achieved.
“Let there be unity between the executive, the judiciary and the legislative arms of government for the citizens to enjoy the dividends of good governance.
“Let the ruling party put its house in order, noting that Mark 3:23 says, “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
“Only the collective responsibility of stakeholders can give us the cherished unity, peaceful co-existence and socio-economic development envisioned for the country,” Owolabi said.
Mr Muyiwa Oladipo, the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Council of Kwara, on his part urged Nigerians, especially Christians to embrace religious tolerance.
Oladipo, who is also the Financial Secretary, National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kwara, said Nigeria has make substantial progress in efforts to attain a developed economy since attaining independence.
He urged the youth to be agents of good governance and peaceful co-existence, as being championed by the state government under Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Oladipo praised his council’s employees for their perseverance and dedication, in spite of their financial constraints.
He solicited the cooperation of all stakeholders in the area, in order for the council to be able to turn around its fortunes.
The council boss said that the desired development at the grassroots could only be achieved in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and acrimony. (NAN)
