Abuja, Dec. 19, 2017 (NAN) The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Tuesday honoured the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) with an award for its support and partnership in the fight against human trafficking in the country.
The Director General of NAPTIP, Ms Julie Okah-Donli, while presenting the award in Abuja at a special end of year party and award night, said it was in recognition of NAN’s support and partnership with the agency’s activities.
Okah-Donli explained that the agency identified partnership as a strategic tool for growth and organisational development and this entails active participation of two or more like-minded entities.
“I specially commend the collaborative efforts of NAN and other media organisations, WOTCLEF, UNODC, Nigeria Immigration Service, EU, IOM among others in the pursuit of the collective goal of combating trafficking in persons in the country.
“The Embassies of Netherlands, U.S., Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Germany and British High Commission have also been of immense support to the agency.
“As you know that every balanced relationship thrives on the principle of reciprocity and NAPTIP has drawn so much strength from these organisations hence craved for an avenue to show appreciation,” she said.
The director general stated that apart from the honour given to some Organisations for their contributions, 39 officers of the agency and one zonal command also got awards and cash prizes in different categories.
Reacting to the award, the NAN Managing Director, Mr Bayo Onanuga, thanked NAPTIP for appreciating NAN’s contributions in the fight against human trafficking.
Onanuga, who was represented by Hajiya Khadijat Lawal, Director Finance and Accounts, said that NAN has been covering activities of NAPTIP to sensitise the public on dangers of human trafficking.
He added that the agency would sustain the collaboration in the coming years to reduce human trafficking to the barest minimum in the country.
She said that NAN has a wider reach and coverage because of its policy of disseminating accurate and correct information in the country and beyond because “when you talk to NAN, you talk to all”. (NAN)
