Bauchi, Dec. 14, Dec. 2017(NAN) A Bauchi based NGO, the Ikra Women and Youths Development, has called for the involvement of community leaders in disputes resolution in the state.
The Chairperson of the NGO, Mrs Amina Garuba said this while speaking at an advocacy visit to the Head of Tirwun Community in Bauchi on Thursday.

Garuba said that community leaders must employ strategies to address family disputes because they were closer to the grassroots.

She also called for inclusion of women in traditional institutions to address gender based violence.

“We are advocating that traditional institutions should bring in women so that cases of gender base violence will be addressed.

“There are some family cases where women won’t open up, especially in places where the men are those presiding over the resolution of cases,” Garuba said.

She said that the NGO, in collaboration with the state chapter of U.S. Exchange Alumni would conduct training for community leaders in the state to build their capacity on handling cases relating to gender and other forms of violence. (NAN)
