Lagos, Dec. 12, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Paralympics Committee (NPC) on Tuesday, commended the country’s para-powerlifters for their outstanding performance at the just-concluded International Paralympics Committee (IPC) world Championships in Mexico.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the country won four gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the championships held from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8.
The president of NPC, Monday Emoghawva, told NAN that the athletes made the country proud by performing excellently at the championship.
“It was a good outing and we are happy that our athletes did very well in the World Championships and it is as a result of their hard work before and during the competition.
“The championship was a qualifier, a pathway for the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan and the athletes did the needful.
“We hope they will continue on this path of success even as they represent the country in more international events,’’ he said.
Emoghawva, however, urged the government not to relent on its support for para-sports in the country.
NAN reports that 11 athletes represented the country at the championship that featured over 600 athletes from 60 countries.
NAN also reports that the country had won four gold, two silver and a bronze medal in the 2014 IPC World Para-Powerlifting Championship in Dubai. (NAN)
