Kano, Dec. 11, 2017 (NAN) The National Fadama III project on Monday said it had assisted more than 14,950 farmers cooperative groups in Kano State with inputs.
Alhaji Shuaibu Sulaiman, the State Coordinator of the project, disclosed this at the 8th Joint World Bank/FG meeting with facilitators of the project in Kano.
The meeting was organised to review activities of the project in the last six months in the state.
He said the beneficiaries, selected from the 44 local government areas of the state, were given fertilizer, improved seeds and other inputs to boost food production.
He also said that the project had supported women farmers with water pumps and improved tomato, rice and sourgham seeds.
“The purpose of the programme is to support the poor to improve their socio-economic status,” he said.
According to him, the project has also distributed tricycles to 500 unemployed graduates to transport farm produce from their villages to various markets in the state.
He said the project had also constructed two dams at Bunkure Local Government Area and Kafin-Chiri in Garko local government area to boost irrigation activities in the areas.
In his remarks, the Task Team leader, World Bank, Dr Adetunji Oridipe, said the state was selected to produce tomato, rice and sourgham to enhanced production of the commodities.(NAN)
