Osogbo, Sept. 16, 2016 (NAN) A human rights activist and social crusader, Mr Hassan Taiwo, has said that Nigeria  quest for nationhood must be devoid of ethnic consideration and religious sentiment.

Taiwo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Friday that a nation could only attain level of egalitarian status if it upholds “meritocracy other than mediocrity”.

According to him, many Nigerians have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing which made some to criticise base on sentiment and selfish economic consideration.

“It has been confirmed that a nation that rely on ethnic consideration and religious affiliation to form national policy is bound to fail without remedy.

“Countries grow through the contributions of competent and patriotic citizenry, irrespective of where they come from.and their beliefs.

“Of course, development only becomes possible where there is high premium place on merit.

“The earlier Nigerians wake up to this mindset, the better for them and the country at large,” he said. (NAN)
