Abuja, Dec. 5, 2017 (NAN) A cross section of residents in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, have commended the organisers of `Abuja Reggae Festival’ for the re-awakening of that genre of music among fans.
They spoke to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday night at GreenView Garden, venue of the festival.
Mr Timothy Idoko, a resident said he was impressed with the superlative entertainment displayed by various artistes at the festival.
“We are only use to cultural carnivals here but this the first time we are having this kind of event in Abuja and its fun all the way.
“Reggae music is about conscious lyrics and reality. I love the organisation of the festival. I give thumbs-up to the organiser,’’ Idoko said.
Another reggae enthusiast who identified himself as `Pupa Yan’ said he would want the festival to hold every quarter of the year to infuse more reggae consciousness among Abuja residents.
“I came all the way from Jos to this festival, because anywhere there is reggae, there is life and consciousness.
“I love every bit of what they are doing here. Raggae is love and Jah bring reggae to mankind for them to appreciate the love of Jah,’’ Yan said.
Miss Loveth Ugochukwu told NAN she came with her fiancé to attend the Raggae Festival adding that she was beginning to fall in love with reggae music.
According to her, she was not into listening to the genre of music but the reggae music performances and songs had endeared her to the genre.
“I love every bit of the festival. I never knew reggae music had good rhythm and messages. However, we are catching our fun.’’
Ugochukwu’s fiancé, Kelechi Egwu said he has been an ardent “listener to reggae’’ all his life and would never miss any reggae festival holding in Abuja.
“The atmosphere here is like home to me. We are here to enjoy good music and have fun; you can see that the atmosphere is charged, everyone is enjoying themselves’’.
The organiser of the event, Muffy Dred said, the essence of the festival was to give Abuja residence reggae vibes.
“Raggae is missing in the FCT; Reggae music is played only on radio and not all the time. So I decided to bring it live for its lover to have a feel and appreciate.
“This is the first of its kind in Abuja, and we will move on with it and make it a regular event.
“We have Reggae artists from Jos, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja thrilling the crowd including Visual DJ Solo playing videos of reggae songs to the audience.
“You can see everybody here is happy, catching their fun and enjoying the vibes,’’ Dred said.
Meanwhile, Mr Obinna Nnaji, the manager of Green View Garden and supporting partner of the event said, the festival was also aimed at `resuscitating’ reggae music in Abuja.
“We are trying to infuse reggae music in Abuja to make people develop the urge to love the genre
.
“We are trying to make it every Monday. I mean we will be playing only reggae music in the garden every Monday,’’ he said.
NAN reports that performing artistes included Sam P, from Jos, Spetter, a law graduate from Lagos, Empress from Lagos and others. (NAN)
