Abuja, Dec.5, 2017 (NAN) A foundation, Kalvac Human Development Initiative, says it has trained some caregivers for the traumatised and elderly persons.
Dr Ada Ekueme Onuora, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Onuora, the foundation provides psychosocial counselling to the traumatised, mentally-challenged and drug abusers who are on medical treatment, either at home or in the hospital.
She said that the foundation was also training caregivers for non-medical care giving for people who had received professional medical intervention in hospitals and other healthcare centres.
Onuora said that the caregivers would guide the elderly and frail who were living with common diseases such as Alzheimer, dementia, musculoskeletal disorder, among others.
She said that the caregivers would also be trained to assist those who needed companionship and help with activities of daily living.
“Our vision is to care with empathy and love to our clients, especially the sick, disabled and the elderly and see a nation where fear of dying alone is minimised.
“We also ensure that our caregivers attend to a person in a holistic manner with the aim of restoring the person to normal life before the ailment.
“We also help to reduce stigmatisation by reinstating the patients back to the society and as well as help to restore them back to their self-esteem and confidence,” she said. (NAN)
