Abuja, Oct. 25, 2016 (NAN) The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has engaged participants of 105th National Management Course of the National School of Policy, Pakistan in sharing experiences to tackle insurgency in Nigeria.

According to a statement by Mr Abu Michael, Media Assistant to IPCR`s Director-General, the participants were at the institute on a working visit.

The Director-General of the institute, Prof. Oshita Oshita, said Pakistan had had its share of terrorism but was able to manage it and boost her security system.

He said violent conflicts in Nigeria were usually viewed on prisms of religion and ethnicity.

Oshita said Nigeria, as a multi-ethnic and plural society, therefore, operated federalism in order to accommodate all principles of the federal character system.

He noted that those conflicts had militated against the country`s advancement.

IPCR, according to him, is carrying out various policy-oriented researches towards boosting harmonious living and effective security network system in the country.

He expressed the hope that those researches would address conflicts such as insurgency, ethno-religious, indigene/settler and herders/farmers clashes, among others.

Oshita explained that the researches being conducted within the mandate of IPCR were to provide clearer insights into conflict distinctiveness and trajectories in various parts of the country.

He said that the agency adopted the use of Conflict Early Warning Centre, conduct of Strategic Conflict Assessment of Nigeria, Interfaith meetings and the National Peace Architecture to address some of the problems.

Earlier, head of the delegation, Ms Irum Bukhari, disclosed that a major strategy that boosted the security system of Pakistan was an effective military-civilian relation.

Bukhari said the participants were in Nigeria to share experiences and study public policy formulation and implementation.

She said the course was mandatory for senior civil servants in Pakistan before they were promoted to the next grade level.

According to her, diplomacy, especially peace promotion strategy, is germane in the knowledge of management, hence the visit to IPCR.

The participants were received by IPCR`s Director of Internal Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Mr Peter Opara on behalf of the director-general.(NAN)
