Lagos, Nov. 30, 2017 (NAN) The duo of Hassan Nurudeen and Azeez Solanke on Thursday emerged winner of the men’s doubles event of the ongoing 49th Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championships in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nurudeen and Solanke defeated Union Bank Table Tennis Club’s pair of Hameed Adeyinka and Monsuru Kazeem 3-2 (8-11, 11-7, 7-13, 11-5, 11-9).
Solanke told NAN after the match that the victory was made possible because of the understanding between him and his partner.
“It was not an easy win, because we played against two players who are more experienced than us. But in the end we were able to defeat them,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, in the championships’ media event final, Lukman Ologunro of Leadership Newspaper defeated Kolawole Omotayo of Lagos Information 2-0.
Also, in the coaches’ singles event final, Hamzat Rasaq defeated Solomon Aloba 2-1.
NAN reports that a total of 336 players are participating in the championships which began on Monday at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
A total of 12 titles are available for the main winners at the championships which will end on Friday.(NAN)
