Court remands rice distributor in prison custody for fraud

Ile-Ife (Osun), Nov. 24, 2017 (NAN) An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Friday, remanded a rice distributor, Portia Uche, in prison custody for alleged N11.4 million fraud.

Uche, 30, is facing 11-count charge of conspiracy, intent to commit felony, obtaining under false pretence and fraud.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, who presided over the case, did not grant the bail of the accused; she ordered the defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje to come with a written application.

Ijiyode ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa prison custody, pending the hearing of the application.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Mathew Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence between June 27 and July 5 around 1:30 p.m. at Ilode area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said the accused conspired with one other person, now at large, to obtain N11.4 million from Samson Anih, Ekwe Friday and Iroegbu Gloria.

He added that the accused obtained the money under false pretence to supply them some bags of rice on arrival of her consignments, but she disappointed them.

According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 383, (4), 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The case was adjourned to Dec. 12 for hearing. NAN)
