Lagos, Nov. 23, 2017(NAN) A 33- year -old commercial, driver Yemi Ogunderu who allegedly drove in a reckless way and caused the death of a pedestrian, was on Thursday charged in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at 23, Adekunle St., Ayobo suburb of Lagos is being tried on a two-count charge of reckless driving and manslaughter.
The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 18 at Amule junction, Ayobo, Lagos.
Akeem said that the accused drove his vehicle in a reckless and dangerous way and knocked down a pedestrian, Timothy Ayemere.
“The victim died immediately and the accused was apprehended by the people that witnessed the scene, ” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O Shomade, granted the accused to a bail of N 2 million with two sureties in like sum.
Shomade adjourned the case until Dec. 18 for mention (NAN)
