Abeokuta, Nov. 20, 2017 (NAN) The Ogun State Chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has sought the support of the state government for a successful hosting of the 4th NMA National Games in the state.
The association’s Chairman, Abayomi Olajide, during the NMA National Sports Committee’s visit to the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Afolabi Afuape, said such support was highly necessary.
He said Ogun had won the hosting right owing to its contributions towards sports development in the country.
“The NMA Games is slated for the first quarter of 2018 and it is bound to attract highly respected personalities as well as renowned sports officials across the country.
“Also, we’re expecting several sportsmen and women in diaspora to be part of the event,” Olajide said.
Uche Ojinmah, the Committee Chairman, NMA National Games, said the visit was to inspect the facilities on ground for “Ogun 2018”.
He said it was also to help his committee assess the level of preparedness for the Games, as well as to seek support from the state government.
Ojinmah said the committee had agreed to complement the Alake Sports Centre facilities with the provision of badminton, basketball and table tennis equipment, among others.
“We need the support of government in terms of logistics, accommodation and provision of some sports facilities,’’ the committee chairman said.
Responding, the Commissioner agreed that the choice of the state as host was no doubt the right one, promising to improve on existing facilities for the success of the event.
He noted that the games would provide a veritable avenue to discover new talents in virtually all sports activities.
Some of the sports to be competed for at the Games are football, tennis, scrabble, table tennis, basketball, badminton, draught, chess and volleyball, among others.(NAN)
