College spends N6m on new Language Laboratory

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Nov. 14, 2017 (NAN) The College of Education Akwanga has set up a new Language Laboratory and constructed a 1, 500-seat convocation square using internally generated revenue.

Provost of the college, Dr Rebecca Umaru, who made the disclosure on Tuesday said over N6 million was spent in setting up the language laboratory.

The provost told the five-man committee set by the state government to investigate the college spending from 2014-2017, that TETFund provided facilities for the laboratory while the college renovated the structure.

“We also used our internally generated revenue to build 1,500 seat Convocation Square, provided two Mikano generating plants at the administrative block, built 80, 000 litter reservoir, tiled school library among others,” she added.

She also told the committee that the two hostels inaugurated by the state government over a year ago at the college campus were not put to use because they had no water and electricity.

The provost expressed gratitude to TETFund for its intervention in the training of staff at home and abroad, building new structures and providing facilities in the institution.

Mr Ezekiel Warai-Auta, Secretary of the committee, said they had received submissions from members of the public and would conduct public hearing on Wednesday.

The secretary added that the committee had since inspected all projects and facilities provided by TETFund and the management of the institution. (NAN)
