Gumel LG to distribute N3.15m exercise books, furniture to 50 schools

Gumel (Jigawa), Nov. 14, 2017 (NAN) The Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa will distribute 12,000 pieces of exercise books and 100 sets of two-seater furniture to over 50 Primary, Islamiyya and Junior Secondary Schools in the area.
Alhaji Aminu Sani, the Chairman of the Council, made this known to newsmen in Gumel on Tuesday.
Aminu said that the books worth N1.8 million, while the furniture also worth N1.35 million.
He explained that the exercise books would be distributed for free to pupils and students in the benefiting schools.
The chairman added the gesture was part of the council’s efforts at improving education at the grassroots.
According to him, it was also to enhance the level of literacy of citizens, particularly those in rural areas.
Sani added that it was also to encourage children to acquire Islamic education, saying that education would make the pupils good citizens, productive and excellent leaders of tomorrow.
He stated that the gesture would go a long way to address the shortage of furniture in some of the schools.
The council boss, therefore, urged parents to ensure that they enroll their children in schools to complement the council’s efforts. (NAN)
