Lagos, Nov. 9, 2017 (NAN) The Lagos State Chapter of the Track and Field Coaches Association of Nigeria (TAFCAN) says the first edition of the “LAGTAFCAN Race’’ will be successful with the measures put in place.
Abiodun Ibrahim, the chapter’s Secretary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that all necessary logistics have been put in place for the two-day programme.
NAN reports that the programme, which is an event put together by the chapter’s newly-inaugurated board, is scheduled to begin on Nov. 16 and end on Nov. 17.
It will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium and the National Stadium, both located at Surulere in Lagos.
Track events slated to hold during the programme include the 500m, 450m, 300m, 250m and 150m races for male and female.
There will also be field events, such as long jump, shot putt, as well as mixed relay races, with all the events starting by 8 a.m.
Ibrahim said the number of athletes registered for the meets has been encouraging, adding that the chapter’s newly-inaugurated board would meet the expectations.
“We are passionate about this event, because it is the flagship of our programme since we came in. We will ensure a successful event come Nov. 16.
“We have made all arrangements in ensuring that all the athletes registered are well catered for. All the logistics are also on point.
“We want to create enabling environment for our athletes to succeed so that coaches will know what it takes to organise events such as this.
“The event will also help us to assess the performance of our athletes and give us an idea of where we need to improve upon,” he said.(NAN)
