Dutse, Nov. 8, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Board of Internal Revenue has directed car dealers operating in the state to register with the board.
Alhaji Salisu Sani, the Coordinator of Road Taxes in the board, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.
He explained that the measure would enable the board to have proper, accurate and documented information of all car dealers in the state.
The coordinator urged the dealers to obtain dealership number plates, saying such plates were readily available at the board.
‘‘The board will no longer accept the use of stickers instead of dealership number plates by car dealers in the state.
‘‘For this, all car dealers operating in Jigawa must henceforth stop using stickers and immediately begin to use car dealership number plates.
‘‘Any car dealer that fail to comply will have himself to blame for whatever action we may take against him.
‘‘This is because the car dealership number plates are readily available in all our centres across the state.
‘‘So the board will no longer accept any excuse whatsoever from any car dealer using stickers to operate in the state,’’ he said.
According to him, some car owners are hiding under the umbrella of car dealers by continuous usage of stickers even after such vehicles must have been sold for long.
Sani noted that the measure would ensure easy and proper identification of vehicles meant for sale and otherwise.
‘‘These dealership number plates will enable us and other security agencies to easily identify cars for sale, particularly in case of accidents and other emergency situations.
‘‘It will also curb crimes as some miscreants can produce the stickers and use them on their vehicles to perpetuate crimes,’’ he said.
He said the board would soon collaborate with FRSC and police to clamp on defaulting dealers. (NAN)
