Dutse, Nov. 8, 2017 (NAN) Mr Aliyu Baita, the Chairman of Jigawa Council of the Nigerian Referees Association (NRA) on Wednesday charged upgraded referees in the state to justify their promotion through improved officiating.
Baita gave the charge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
He said that the successful referees would be deployed to officiate in local league matches, adding that the council would not tolerate indiscipline.
The chairman told NAN that 12 of the 28 referees from the state who passed the 2017 promotion examination were recently promoted to Grade I and six promoted to Grade II.
According to him, two amateurs, known as referees-in-training, were promoted to Grade III while eight failed the examination.
“The 2017 promotion examination results were released at the NRA’s annual general meeting held in Imo State on Nov. 4.
“Twenty-eight candidates from Jigawa participated in the examination in all the three categories on Aug. 8,’’ he said.
Baita also told NAN that the council had begun recruitment of fresh members.
He advised interested persons within the ages 18 years and 22 years to apply for membership. (NAN)
