Sokoto, Nov. 6, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Lawal Ida, the National Coordinator, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), says 390 youths will be trained on N-Agriprenuers business plan initiative.
The coordinator made this known in Sokoto on Monday at the opening of 6th Day Training of N-Agriprenuers on Business plan for 126 youths drawn from Sokoto and Kebbi States.
Ida, represented by Mr Achem Bello, IFAD’s N-Agribusiness Specialist Officer, said that the pilot programme had commenced across seven IFAD intervention states in the Northern part of the country.
‘‘The programme is aimed at addressing food security and unemployment among young men and women in Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.
‘‘As such, 390 participants were drawn across the states to be trained and supported under the IFAD Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme (CASP) in the country.
‘‘Moreover, 126 young men and females were selected from this axis to participate in the training with 72 from Sokoto State and 54 from Kebbi State.
‘‘Each participant will be supported with counterpart fund to enhance agricultural show in the country,’’ he said.
According to Ida, at the end of the programme each participant will have a better idea of agribusiness engagement and support to enhance their future businesses.
He further commended Sokoto State for hosting the programme and called on the participants to make good use of the opportunity to improve their lives.
In his remark, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Umaru Nagwari, commended IFAD and President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the nation’s farmers.
Nagwari said that the success recorded under the present administration was due to government’s support for agricultural activities.
He added that the state government under Gov. Aminu Tambuwal leadership would continue to support agriculture to boost the state’s revenue generation and food security.
Earlier, the state Programme Officers of Sokoto and Kebbi States, Alhaji Aminu Dogon-Daji and Mr Joel Aiki congratulated the participants for being chosen to participate in the programme. (NAN)
