Labourer bags 3 years for trespass, theft

Minna, Nov.3, 2017 (NAN) A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old labourer, Ibrahim Hamza, to three years imprison.
The convict stood trial alongside one Umar Salisu, on a 3-count charge of criminal trespass, causing hurt and theft.
Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Fati Auna held that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed those offences.
“Having convinced the court using the right evidence and case laws to prove this case, Hamza is hereby sentenced and convicted to 12 months imprison for each count or a fine of N60, 000.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the case of the second defendant (Salisu), the court fixed Nov.16 for further hearing as he denied the allegations.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Danladi, had told the court that one Kabiru Abdullahi reported the matter to the police on Oct.28
Danladi quoted the complainant as alleging that the accused person entered his compound at Alagbado area of Minna pretending to be fetching water from the well.
He averred that when the complainant sought to know their identities due to their strange looks, they removed a knife and stabbed him on his left hand.
He said during police investigation, they also confessed to have entered one Taiwo Maroof’s house, at the same address and made away with one Itel and two Techno phones all valued at N38, 000.
Danladi said their actions were contrary to Sections 343, 246 and 287 of the Penal Code Law of Niger State.
NAN reports that while Hamza pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency, Salisu denied the allegations.
The prosecutor, thereafter, sought for Hamza’s summary trial and asked for an adjournment to enable police continue investigation in respect of Salisu.
