Ilorin Chief Imam lauds Egosi community in Kwara over religious tolerance

Egosi (Kwara), Nov. 2, 2017 (NAN) The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Bashir Solihu, has commended residents of Egosi community in Kwara for imbibing high level of religious tolerance in their daily undertakings.
Imam Solihu gave the commendation during the installation of Imam Abdulrasak Suleiman as the new Chief Imam of Egosi Central Mosque on Thursday in Egosi in Oke-Ero Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme also included the raising of a N500 million appeal fund for the completion of the town’s Central Mosque project.
Solihu, who particularly praised the Christians in the community for always identifying and supporting their Muslim bothers, described the development as ‘‘superb and unprecedented in the history of the state.’’
He noted that the show of love and affection that existed between the followers of Islamic and Christianity Religions in the town should be emulated for the nation’s socio-economic development.
Imam Solihu, who doubled as the representative of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari, praised the Egosi Traditional Council headed by Oba Daniel Dada for ensuring unity among the people
He urged the newly installed Imam to imbibe the act of honesty, diligence and righteousness in the discharge of his responsibilities.
‘‘I am highly delighted and elated beyond words and want to commend you for this show of love and affection.
‘‘This high level of religious tolerance and unity is superb and unprecedented in the history of the state and I implore you to maintain the tempo,’’ he said.
In his remark, Oba Dada, thanked the gathering for the honour done to the community through their presence.
‘‘We will continue to support and associate with every laudable project, irrespective of religious background, in moving our community forward,’’ he said.
Chief Sunday Adetona, the Odofin of Egosi and Alhaji Badirudeen Balogun, Baba Adini of Egosi, appealed to the town’s wealthy individuals and groups to contribute their quota toward the development of the community.
Imam Suleiman thanked the people of the community for the confidence reposed in him and promised to perform his duties with tear of God.
NAN reports that the occasion was witnessed by Chief Imams from neighbouring towns such as Omu-Aran, Osi, Oko, Arandun, Odo-Owa-Kajola, Oke-Onigbin, among others. (NAN)
