Council raises committee to tackle truancy by health workers

Nasarawa Eggon (Nasarawa State) Oct. 27, 2017 (NAN) The Primary Health Care Department of Eggon Local Government Area, Nassarawa State, has set up a 5-man disciplinary committee to tackle truancy and unprofessional conduct among its health workers, its director, Mr Haruna Ekalo said.

Ekalo disclosed this on Friday at the monthly review meeting of the department, saying that the committee was also charged with the responsibility of improving the health and standard of living of the people of the area.

He said the department would not fold its hands to watch some members engage in sharp and unprofessional conducts in the discharge of their responsibility to the people.

The director advised members of staff of the department to adhere strictly to their professional ethics to boost efforts of the council in bringing health closer the grassroots.

Ekalo, however, commended some other health workers for rendering valuable services to the people at the grassroots and urged them to be more dedicated to their duties.

He, therefore, warned said that any health practitioner found wanting in the discharging his or her duties would be sanctioned in line with the ethics of the profession, to serve as deterrent to others.

He restated the commitment of the department to continue to key into good health policies and programmes of the council which he said had direct bearing on the lives of the people of the area.

Joel Akwashi and Saratu John, who spoke at the meeting, commended the head of department for organising the monthly review meeting.

They said the step would go a long way in boosting productivity among health staff and called for its sustenance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by the officers in charge of the 32 Primary Healthcare Clinics in area. (NAN)
