Abuja, Oct. 25, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) has advocated robust collaborations and systems that allowed for effective, efficient and inclusive actions for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr Laoye Jaiyeola, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NESG stated this at a public function to mark the 2017 United Nations Day celebration with the theme, “Concrete Action for SDGs”.
He said commitment toward developing government, private sector and civil society capabilities for shared reporting, accountability, collaborative mechanism and joint action planning circle were necessary for the attainment of SDGs.
“In terms of commitment, we need political will backed by government prioritised funding of the SDGs.
“We need business confidence in our collective future, backed by targeted private sector investment and participation in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) and SDSGs.
“We need civil society engagement backed by targeted, coordinated and focused corporate social investment, leveraging better coordination of grant funding and donor targeted interventions,” he said.
He called for stronger and more visible political, business and social leadership committed to removing obstacles to the achievement of future goals.
‘’We need leadership that will promote private sector led-growth and development that will require deeper industry-specific collaboration, coordination, engagement and interventions.’’
He said governance failure and excuses would no longer be acceptable in the current era of accelerated change, increasing complexity and ever multiplying global competitiveness. (NAN)
