Lagos, Oct. 26, 2017 (NAN) A security professional, Mr Dennis Amachree, has urged law enforcement agencies to plug into the cyberspace to manage and tackle cyber crime.

Amachree, who is also the President of Security Strategic Group (SSG), made the call during the 2017 Cyber Security Challenge Nigeria (CYSEC NG) in Lagos on Wednesday.

He spoke on the topic, “The Evolution of Crime and Technology’’.

According to him, the advent of cyber age has brought about many things, crime inclusive.

“Increase in internet connectivity, although it is beneficial to life with its many advantages and opportunities have also brought in crimes, security risk as criminals have gone into the cyberspace.

“The law enforcement agencies need to plug into the space to be able to manage cyber crimes,’’ he said.

He said that the people were now facing new security threats  as many criminals were no longer walking the streets but had moved into the cyberspace.

He said that terrorists were also taking advantage of the online traffic to recruit adherents, industrial espionage rife and active among corporate bodies.

He said that law enforcement and counter terrorist forces were  working to neutralise cyber terrorist attacks and security agencies attempts at combating terrorism, which had been  violating privacy and freedom of information.

Amachree said that the defence against cyber terrorism had to do with prevention, incident management and consequence management, adding that being a new frontier for security professionals there was need to think ahead.

“We are all plugged in as technology now rules our lives; cyber security problems are also escalating, the new tech is very vulnerable to hacking and many users are unfortunately oblivious of this invasion of privacy,’’ he said. (NAN)
