Lagos, Oct. 24, 2017 (NAN) Two businessmen, Uchenna Nwabueze and Wilson Odionge, who allegedly conspired to receive a stolen car, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The police arraigned the accused before Magistrate MKO Fadeyi on counts of conspiracy and receiving of stolen car.
Nwabueze, 35, is a resident of Mushin while Odionge, 55, resides at Oshodi.
They pleaded not guilty, and were admitted to N50, 000 bail each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Fadeyi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Earlier the prosecutor, Insp. G.B Ekundayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 2 at Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos State.
He said that the duo conspired and received a stolen Suzuki wagon belonging to Mrs Boss Animashaun.
Ekundayo said that the accused received the car worth N600, 000 from Animashaun’s driver, Tunji Adigun, still at large.
He said that Animashaun had sent Adigun to deliver a refrigerator to her customer but the driver sold the car to the accused and absconded.
The prosecutor submitted that the offences contravened Sections 293 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to three years’ imprisonment if found guilty, according to the provisions of the sections.
The case has been adjourned until Nov.13 for mention. (NAN)
