Mechanic in court over alleged burglary, theft

Lagos, Oct. 19, 2017 (NAN) An 18-year-old mechanic, Qudus Ariyo, was on Thursday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates Court over alleged burglary and theft of goods worth N150,000.
Ariyo, whose place of residence was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and theft.
He, however, pleaded innocence of the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 29, at about 11:p.m. at New Road, Badore, Ajah Lagos.
He said that the accused broke into a shop belonging to one Mrs Aishat Balogun and stole goods worth N150,000.
Odigie listed the goods the accused stole as nine school bags, 17 leather sandals, 10 leather slippers, 10 rubber slippers, two jeans and three Polos.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment while section 307 carries seven years imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs F. O. Ikobayo, granted the accused bail in the sum of 50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 1 for mention.
