Lagos, Oct. 19, 2017 (NAN) A 24-year-old motorcyclist, Lekan Ojo, was on Thursday in Lagos remanded in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of breaking into a shop and stealing phone and drinks on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Ekogbulu, who gave the order, said the accused, who resides at Fatal Dawudu Street, Ogun, should
remain in Kirikiri Prison pending sentence.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on Oct. 16 at 1:30 a.m. at Alagbado, a Lagos suburb.
He said the accused unlawfully entered the house of Mr Elijah Babatunde, the complainant and stole his phone valued at N40,000.
“The vigilance group was on patrol when they received a tip-off that a thief had broken into a shop to steal.
“On getting to the shop, they saw the accused with a pack of CocaCola and a phone.”
In his plea for mercy, the accused attributed it to the handiwork of the devil.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 308(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 308 prescribes seven years imprisonment for burglary, while Section
287 provides a three-year jail term for stealing.
The magistrate fixed Oct. 25 for sentence.(NAN)
