Man, 19 arraigned on four-count charge for allegedlystealing phones

Lagos, Oct. 19, 2017 (NAN) A 19-year-old unemployed man, Rabiu Musa was on Thursday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly beating and dispossessing brothers of their phones.

The accused was arraigned before Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji on four-count charge of breach of peace, assault, conspiracy and stealing.

Musa, whose residential address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was admitted to a bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate directed that the two sureties must be gainfully employed and also show evidence of two years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 14 at Ashiayi Street, Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos.

He said that the accused and others still at large allegedly conspired to assault one Mohammed Hussain and his brother, Idris.

“The accused beat the complainants with sharp objects which caused injuries to their bodies,” he said.

Egunjobi said that the accused and others stormed the complainants’ street with dangerous weapons to fight members of group and in the process dispossessed residents of their properties.

“The accused beat and hit the complainants with plank on the heads to dispossess them of their Techno phone valued at N45, 000 and Alcatel phone valued at N10,000, totalling N55,000,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 166, 172, 287 and 411 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for three years if found guilty of stealing according to the provisions of Section 287.

The case was adjourned until Nov. 1 for mention. (NAN)
