Abuja, Oct. 18, (NAN) Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, Wife of Enugu State governor, has called for partnership with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in the areas of training and employment creation for youths and women in the state.
Mrs Ugwuanyi made the call during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the NDE, Dr Mohammed Nasir on Wednesday in Abuja
She said that there was need for training and empowerment for people of the state, especially the youth and women considering the socioeconomic situation of an average woman and youth in the state.
Ugwuanyi said that her plan was to reach out to the rural dwellers who were willing to embrace small scale businesses to stem the tide of rural urban migration.
She said that the initiative would curtail criminal activities in the state as well as give meaning and dignity to the lives of rural dwellers.
Responding, Nasir, who outlined the various programmes and schemes of the directorate, promised to collaborate with the State government in any area of their interest.
He said that the NDE would be willing to support all the employment initiatives by the first lady.
Nasir directed the NDE office in the state to work out the modalities for effective collaboration between the NDE and the government of Enugu State for the benefit of the youths and women.
He said that the employment of youths and women was critical in the fight against poverty nationwide.
Nasir called on Nigerians to embrace skills acquisition and self employment to become self reliant for a paradigm shift in the socio-political situation of the country. (NAN)
