Lagos, Oct. 18, 2017 (NAN) An art instructor, Mr Opeolu Taiwo, has urged the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) to make available sign language instructors and Braille to facilitate learning for physically challenged visitors.
Taiwo, who works with the Yaba College of Technology Secondary School, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday.
The instructor said that use of sign language and Braille would enable visually and hearing impaired visitors to acquire knowledge from various museums in the country.
According to Taiwo, sign language instructors should be on ground to communicate to deaf visitors while Braille should be available for the blind to read through inscriptions on artifacts.
“The management of museums needs to take steps to employ sign language instructors and make Braille available.
“The physically challenged should know our history. Even if the blind cannot see, they should be able to understand our history.
“The NCMM should make available these and other materials that can facilitate learning for the physically challenged.
“NCMM should make learning enjoyable for all,’’ the instructor said. (NAN)
