MMIA police command prosecutes 208 persons in 8 months

Lagos, Oct. 16, 2017 (NAN) The Lagos Airport Police Command on Monday said it prosecuted over 208 persons for various offences at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport between January and August this year.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Joseph Alabi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that those prosecuted were among 317 arrested in the area within the period under review.

He said that the suspects were charged with assault, stealing, obtaining by false pretences as well as unlawful entry and touting which contravened the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) bye laws.

“The command was able to secure 82 convictions for the period under review while 215 cases were still under investigation and trial,” he said.

According to him, the command will continue to intensify efforts geared towards securing the airport and its environs in order to guarantee the safety of passengers, airline operators and other users.

Alabi appealed to members of the public to abide by the rules and regulations of the airport, especially on the issue of restricted areas.

Meanwhile, a new Commissioner of Police has been appointed for the MMIA Police Command.

The new police boss, Mr Abdullahi Usman, took over from Mr Besan Gwana

Gwana, from Borno, had served in many places, including Police Cooperative Lagos and Katsina State Command. (NAN)
