Abuja, Oct. 13, 2017 (NAN) Dr Cosmas Ilechukwu, General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries, says Nigerians must work for one united and prosperous country.
He made the call on Friday in Abuja at the 2017 edition of “The Change We Need’’ lecture series organised by the ministries.
“God has spoken on several occasions about the strategic role he destined Nigeria to play in global affairs towards the actualisation of his kingdom agenda.
“This explains the reason for my strong belief in one Nigeria and why in the 2014 of this forum I underscored the imperative for national integration and called for building of a Nigeria by all Nigerians,’’ he said.
Ilechukwu, however, said “it is regrettable that our leaders in their body languages and overt actions, that speak louder than words, have continued to remind us that we are not yet one and perhaps cannot be one.’’
He observed that whatever might be human instrumentality that conceived the idea and followed through to the creation of Nigeria, it was acting out a script authored by the Almighty God.
However, the spokesperson of the Pan Yoruba Socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin in his speech, said “one hackneyed expression with which restructuring calls have been met with is the non-negotiability of the unity of Nigeria.
“As one of the leading lights of restructuring calls, my choice obviously is that we must restructure.’’
In his speech, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, cautioned Nigerians against hate speech irrespective of various opinions and calls on restructuring.
The theme of the forum is: “Disintegration or Restructuring: Which Way Nigeria’’
Dignitaries at the occasion included Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Prof. Vincent Anigbogu, Director-General, Centre for National Transformation and Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, former member, House of Representatives, among others.(NAN)
